Campaign 3: the Book of Plex
Part 3.1: Return
The Orillee family, with the reluctant (read: “forced”) help of Slaanesh and Arnzipal, were able to massively accelerate the passage of time inside Ritonar. Knowing Orillee agents would be right behind them when the party re-entered Ritonar, Slaanesh and Arnzipal stayed in the material plane and attempted to send the party to a location other than the usual God’s Eye entrance/exit. The party ended up in the familiar basement of the Library of the Ninth and travelled to the recently vertically-joined city of Tychus-Asadar-Brunlight to reunite with Vasher, who had dubbed himself acting commander of the Alliance of Greencrest, the surviving populations of several Osh and Neothoran towns taking shelter from the patrolling undead armies of the Plaguelord.
While rallying at Tychus-Asadar-Brunlight the party was contacted by two Dragon Knights, silver dragonborn named Azavath and Malkanth. They explained that they had an important quest for the group: retrieving the plylactery of their leader, Akrazul, Last of the Dragons.
Part 3.2: Akrazul
Akrazul's phylactery has been separated into two parts. One was in the storerooms of Falanil, the late King of Oshland. The other was hidden in a fortress near Wraithgate. Using Elornhasemmarim's teleporter room, the party teleported from Tychus to Wraithgate, then travelled to the fortress. They recovered the phylactery segment from the pyrohydra guarding it by Banishing it, but underestimated its speed and nearly got eaten as they teleported back to Mansion Asadar.
It was short walk from Tychus into the Mountains of Confusion to the Lair of the Dragon Knights. Precious few souls were allowed into this building, but the party was welcomed in upon presenting the first half of Akrazul's phylactery, and brought to meet the Dracolich himself. The party asked for Akrazul's aid against the Plaguelord and the Orillee invaders. Akrazul did not hoard treasures or artifacts like most of his kind, but he told the party he would consult his hoard of recorded history and lore of Ritonar to help as best he can.
Part 3.3: Xelgol the Sixth
Akrazul informed the party that Xelgol the Sixth was capturing blood princes as they were reborn at the Six Circles and planned to consume the magical essences of his siblings and ascend to the mantle of Blood God to fill the newly-discovered power vacuum. He gave them the object that informed them of this: Selrach the Tenth, imprisoned in floating crystal. Akrazul let V use his personal teleportation circle and the party also informed him he’s been living in a pocket dimension for thousands of years without noticing, and he’s pretty upset about that.
The party used the Mountains to take Selrach to the foundry of rage, in search of aid from Hyacinth and additional over-powered magical weapons. While exiting the Mountains, the party loses track of Vale. On their way to the Foundry, the party got close enough to see an under-construction Orillee outpost around the God’s Eye, implying the Orillee family had caught up with them in the material plane at Bartholomew’s cave. with Foundry gorgons including one recovered bronze://dino being used as beasts of burden. The Foundry of Rage is found abandoned, with magical traps left behind to discourage exploration. Fearing the worst, the party returned to the Mountains.
To get from the Foundry back to Windfell, the party passed through the now-dry Ring of Doom and into Windfell. They met a strange party on the way there: the Skull of the First, one of Ritonar’s six moons, was rising above Windfell by the Liar’s Monolith. The enormous floating skull saw the party, turned, and spoke to them, warning Tonilm in particular that he and the Dark Lord would soon duel for control of Ritonar in a city with streets of blood.
Looking for clues as to how to free Selrach, the party again explored the Eyrie of the Watcher, one of the first locations in Ritonar that they had travelled to together. They searched the building for clues, getting more and more frustrated as they searched. Eventually, chrome://dino assaulted a piece of furniture, causing the Eyrie’s defences to suddenly register him as a threat. The room began to shrink, and the party quickly evacuated, but Selrach was left inside and was crushed.
Barehanded and eager to ensure Selrach had safely reincarnated, the party used the Mountains of Confusion to travel to the Six Circles to find the beginnings of a mass ritual sacrifice, discovering Slaanesh, Iesceltan, Haxithor, Hyacinth, and Selrach all magically contained and in varying states of lucidity. Utilizing a local time distortion, the party grabbed Hyacinth’s prison and escaped before they were discovered. They fled to the Impossible Fortress, but found it abandoned.
